It took a couple extra innings, but the Winnipeg Goldeyes took care of business on Tuesday night. Nick Liles drove home the winning run in the 12th inning as the Goldeyes evened up their series with a 3-2 win over the Sioux City Explorers. “Neither team was really hitting the ball at all,” said Goldeyes pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea. “Our pitchers kept us in the game. We finally scratched one off on a good pitcher and got the W.” Sioux City started the scoring in the third inning. They scored twice on a Bryan Pounds double with two outs to take the early lead. The Goldeyes would respond in the top half of the fourth. Josh Mazzola and Casey Haerther, who both came into the game struggling at the plate, hit back-to-back run scoring doubles to knot the game at 2-2. The Goldeyes would come close to breaking the tie in the eighth inning. Winnipeg put two runners in scoring position with two outs, but Explorers reliever Jimmer Kennedy got Mazzola to strike out swinging to end the threat. Neither team could break the deadlock through nine, sending the game into extra innings. The bullpens continued to hush the bats before the Goldeyes came through in the 12th. Amos Ramon reached on an error to Pounds and with two outs and on a 0-2 count, Liles drove him in for the game winning run. Patrick Keating worked his longest outing of the season to improve to 4-0. He pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief, while striking out five. He did not allow an Explorer to reach base. Matt Rusch had an impressive start for Winnipeg, going seven strong innings before turning it over to the bullpen. Cody Satterwhite factored in the decision for the second straight night, this time on the losing side of things. He pitched two innings and allowed only the one hit to Liles, which brought home the game winning, unearned run in the 12th. The Goldeyes will look to take the series tomorrow night at Lewis & Clark Park. Winnipeg will send lefthander Pete Gehle to the mound for a 7:00 p.m. start. Angels manager Mike Scioscia missed the game to attend the funeral of former Dodgers teammate Bob Welch in Arizona. Mike Trout and Albert Pujols each had three hits, including back-to-back homers in the sixth inning, and drove in four runs. Evan Gattis homered for Atlanta. The Angels won despite blowing a 5-1 lead in the ninth and a 6-5 lead in the 10th. "We never quit and they never quit," Trout said. "Give them props. They scored four runs against us in the ninth. But we kept battling and put ourselves in position to win the game." Erick Aybar led off the 13th with his fourth hit, an infield single, and moved to second on catcher Gerald Lairds passed ball. David Hale (2-1) walked pinch-hitter C.J. Wilson and hit Chris Iannetta with a pitch to load the bases. Calhouns soft fly ball fell just in front of centre fielder B.J. Upton, who attempted a sliding catch, to give Los Angeles the lead. Trouts two-run double and Pujols two-run single pushed the lead to five runs. "I just cant walk people like that," Hale said.
